International Comic Salon

For 35 years Erlangen has hosted the most important event for comic art and graphic literature in the German-speaking realm.

The core of the Erlangen International Comic Salon is the Comic Fair. More than 200 exhibitors – German and international publishers, agencies, comic dealers, comic and illustration classes from universities – present their programmes.

Due to the restauration of the event hall in 2018, the comic fair took place in marquees on the Schlossplatz, Hugenottenplatz and in the Schlossgardens.

The International Comic Salon welcomes around 500 artists – they can be experienced in person during up to 1.000 signing sessions throughout the festival.

The “Max und Moritz“ award is the most important prize for graphic literature in the German-speaking realm. It is presented in different categories during the "Max und Moritz" gala, hosted by Hella von Sinnen and Christian Gasser.

The Children's Comic Festival at the International Comic Salon: Four days filled with a special programme directed at children between the age 3 and 12, presenting readings, workshops, live drawing sessions, an interactive exhibition and a comic rallye through the botanical gardens.

Prior to the Comic Salon, around 190 children and teenagers participated in various workshops, run by reknown comic artists.

The 18th Erlangen International Comic Salon presented around 50 readings, perfomances and concerts. A special focus in 2018 was the topic "Comics and Music" – impressively staged by Andreas Hartung and The Dunwich Orchestra.
